Interfacial Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Explosively Welded Mg/Al Alloy Plates

Abstract The interfacial microstructure and hardness of cladding plates produced by explosive welding between magnesium alloys having different aluminum concentrations A6005C alloy were investigated. Further, measurements residual stress at the interface performed. In all plates, bonding had a wavy shape. Adiabatic shear bands formed on side deformation twins appeared due to impact welding. Microstructure observation using scanning transmission electron microscope revealed that thin interlayer was in plates. thickness increased with an increase concentration alloy, while 1 μm or less. cross-section plate, showed relatively higher Vickers value compared when approaching interface.
